Founded in 1949, British Midland is a UK-based airline. The carrier rebranded to bmi in 2003. bmi flies to over 30 destinations in Europe, the Middle East Africa and Asia and is rated a SkyTrax 3-star airline. While bmi is a British airline, since March 2012 its parent company has been International Airlines Group. London Heathrow airport is bmi’s hub. bmi left Star Alliance in May 2012. The airline has codeshare agreements with Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Gulf Air, Etihad Airways, United Airlines, US Airways and more than a dozen other carriers. bmi planes can be recognized by their deep blue fuselage, contrasted against a bright white undercarriage and red accents on the engines and wings.

Next Day or Advance Check-in: This option allows you to save time and check-in for your flight up to 24 hours in advance of your departure time via the internet. Electronic Kiosk Check-in: For those who want to bypass the lines at the counter on busy travel days, bmi offers check-in services for passengers via electronic kiosks. Passengers traveling with infants are entitled to one extra piece of luggage with a maximum weight of 10 kg, and a collapsible stroller, irrespective of class.

Carry-On Baggage Restrictions for bmi

For those traveling Economy or Premium Economy class, you are allowed to carry 1 piece of baggage with you on the flight at no extra charge. The maximum total dimension of carry on baggage (L + W + H) should not exceed 118 cm.

For those traveling Business Class, you are allowed to carry 2 pieces of baggage with you on the flight at no extra charge. The maximum total dimension of carry on baggage (L + W + H) should not exceed 118 cm per piece.

bmi Seating Options

bmi offers 3 options for seating on their flights:

Economy Class

Economy class seating on bmi has a distance of 31-32 inches between seats. Seat features vary between flights but may include adjustable foot and head rests and seat back screens. See bmi’s In Flight Entertainment Page.

Economy Plus Class

Economy Plus class seating on bmi has a distance of 50 inches between seats. Seats have a 50 degree recline and individual in-arm screens. Telephones, laptop points and dataports are also available at each seat.

Business Class

Business class seating on bmi has a distance of 50-80 inches between seats. On some flights, the seats are electronically operated fully flat beds. Seats have 15 inch mounted arm rest screens and noise canceling headsets, telephones, laptop points and dataports.
